The Valley of the Kings is an ancient burial ground on Luxor’s West Bank, filled with rock-cut tombs like Tutankhamun’s. Adjacent to it is the Temple of Hatshepsut, a magnificent mortuary temple built into a cliff face across three enormous terraces. The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, located near the other sites and famous for the ancient legend of the northern statue “singing” after an earthquake.
